Galaxy Tab Active 6 5G Leaks in the GSMA Database, and Its Battery Clears India's BIS

Four model numbers have appeared in the IMEI database, and a battery has been certified in India. Samsung has announced nothing, and most specifications are assumptions.

Samsung's next rugged tablet, expected to be called the Galaxy Tab Active 6 5G, has appeared in the GSMA IMEI database, and a battery for it has been certified in India. Samsung has made no announcement, so everything about the device is a leak or an expectation. Android Headlines reported the database entry on October 3, and SammyGuru and DroidFeats followed on October 4.

What the database shows

Model numberLikely market
SM-X316BGlobal (possibly 5G)
SM-X316NSouth Korea
SM-X318QCarrier and unlocked versions
SM-X318UNorth America

Database entries show that a device exists and is being prepared for several markets, but they do not confirm a name, price or date. The regional versions are likely to use different bands and certifications, and the reports expect 5G on some variants, not all. The market assignments above are inferences from the model numbers.

The India angle: BIS certification

SammyGuru reports that batteries for the Tab Active 6, code EB-BX316EGE, and for the Galaxy XCover FR, code EB-BG779EIE, have received Bureau of Indian Standards certification. BIS approval is required before electronic products with batteries can be sold in India, so the entry suggests Samsung is at least considering the Indian market.

The listings do not give a battery capacity or a sale date, and a BIS entry can appear months before a launch. It does not mean Samsung has decided on an Indian release.

Expected design and features

Android Headlines and SammyGuru describe an 8-inch rugged tablet with IP68 water and dust protection and MIL-STD-810H durability certification. It is expected to keep the removable battery the Active line is known for, and the reports guess 5,050mAh, the same as the Tab Active 5; that figure is an assumption, since the BIS records give no capacity.

The reports also expect glove-friendly touch and S Pen support, and SammyGuru expects a launch in early 2027. None of this has been confirmed by Samsung.

Who rugged tablets are for

The Active series is aimed at workers in demanding settings such as warehouses, field service, construction and logistics. A removable battery matters there because a worker can swap a spare during a shift instead of waiting for a charge, which is also why the XCover FR battery certified alongside it is notable: Samsung sells rugged devices to businesses. For ordinary buyers, these devices are usually too expensive and bulky for casual use.

What is still unknown

Samsung has not disclosed the processor, memory, screen resolution, price or launch date. Battery capacity, cameras and the software support commitment are also unknown. Because the reports rely on database entries and regulatory filings, the specifications above should be read as likely rather than certain.

What to watch next

Watch for a Samsung support page, which often appears shortly before a launch, FCC filings in the US that reveal more about connectivity and battery size, and leaks of the processor and price.
