Samsung has started rolling out One UI 9, built on Android 17, to its 2024 flagships: the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 (Android Authority, Tech Advisor). It began outside South Korea on October 12, and the Galaxy A57 is in the same wave.

Where it is live

The rollout is staged, so availability has spread unevenly. Early reports named South Korea and the US; Forbes, citing an update tracker, said Thailand and Indonesia were among the first markets (Forbes); and owners have since reported it in Italy, Germany and India. Samsung has not published a regional schedule. Carrier-locked models usually arrive later than unlocked ones.

In India

Sammy Fans reports that the India rollout for the Galaxy S24 started with One UI beta participants, with general users following. For the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, Samsung is reportedly preparing the stable release for Indian owners who did not join the beta. To check, go to Settings, Software update, Download and install.

What changes

Reports list different features, and none is a complete changelog. Both main reports mention My FanCam, which tracks a chosen subject in existing video and reframes the footage around it. 9to5Google adds generative and editable Now Brief cards, warranty and care details in Settings, Galaxy AI tools (Now Nudge, Creative Studio, Interpreter, Document Scan, Voice Recorder), and Security Brief, Privacy Alerts and Scam Detection. Tech Advisor names Call Brief, which describes the nature of a call while it is happening, a more customisable Quick Panel, improvements to DeX and Samsung Notes, and a location privacy indicator. Features, especially Galaxy AI ones, can vary by country and model. Reports also differ on whether the S24 build carries the September or October 2026 security patch.

Before you update

Back up your phone first, use Wi-Fi given the roughly 3.8GB download, and watch battery life and app compatibility for a few days after a major Android version jump. Galaxy AI features may need a Samsung account sign-in.
