The stable build arrives on October 12 after roughly seven weeks of open beta, and brings the redesigned launcher and a Micrographics clock face that the beta left out.

Nothing began rolling out the stable version of Nothing OS 5.0, built on Android 17, to the Nothing Phone (3) on October 12, after an open beta that started on August 26. Owners can check under Settings, System, System update (9to5Google, Droid Life). The rollout is staged, so not every unit gets it on day one.

What is in the stable build

The redesigned launcher and the Micrographics clock face arrive with the general release; neither was in the open beta. The rest was already visible to testers: a new Geist typeface, redesigned settings with new icons and spacing, updated status bar icons and animations, and changes to the Camera and Gallery apps.

Personalisation gets the biggest overhaul. Wallpaper-linked colour tints update when the background changes, the lock screen gains new clock options, and home screen editing can be done in batches. Two widgets are new: Collector, and Away Time, which tracks how long you go without using the phone. A dedicated Glyph app collects the light settings. Nothing says the update makes phones smoother and faster, which has not been independently measured.

Android 17 changes

Notifications and Quick Settings sit in separate panels (the single-pane layout can be kept), Quick Share can send files to an iPhone using QR codes, and there is an expanded dark theme, better screen recording, a separate volume control for the assistant and an updated Recents menu (TechRepublic).

Essential AI features

Essential Voice gains real-time transcription and better formatting, and Essential Apps Builder creates small tools from natural-language instructions. Nothing plans MCP support in Essential Space in October, a redesigned capture experience in November and real-time translation later in 2026.

Rollout schedule for other phones

Nothing calls the dates indicative and says they may vary by region and carrier. The schedule has already moved: Nothing's August roadmap had the Phone (2a) series in mid-October, now mid-November (Business Today).

For owners in India

India is one of Nothing's biggest markets, and the Phone (3), (3a) and CMF models are sold here, but Nothing has not published an India-specific schedule. Expect the global windows above, give or take a few days.

Before updating

No build number or download size has been published. Back up the phone before a major version jump; open beta users get the stable build over the air in the same way.

What to watch next
