Google's October Play Services Update Adds Aadhaar Upgrade in Wallet and Wider Scam Protection
Play services v26.41 also brings call-time app checks to Android 15 and earlier and new Find Hub tag features, and it reaches phones over the next couple of weeks.

Google's October system update, Play services version 26.41, lets Google Wallet users upgrade a digital ID to an Aadhaar card. The release is dated October 19 in Google's system release notes, and it also widens scam protection during calls and adds features to the Find Hub tracking network (9to5Google).
What the update changes
| Area | Change in Play services v26.41 / Play Store 53.7 |
|---|---|
| Google Wallet | Upgrade an existing digital ID to an Aadhaar card |
| Security | In-call scam protection extended to Android 15 and earlier, targeting apps that request accessibility permissions during a call |
| Find Hub | Automatic bonding for supported locator tags; Left-Behind Reminders in the Find Hub app |
| Fast Pair | Smoother over-the-air firmware updates for accessories |
| Play Store 53.7 | Shows estimated time or data remaining on downloads |
Google rolls out Play services updates in stages, and builds reach devices over the next couple of weeks (AndroidPure). The release notes give no schedule by region, and a feature appearing in the changelog does not mean it is live on every phone yet. Google shipped v26.40 a week earlier, on October 12.
The Aadhaar piece
For Indian users, the Wallet change is the most relevant. The release notes describe an option to upgrade a digital ID already in Wallet to an Aadhaar card. Aadhaar support in Google Wallet itself is not new; Google announced Aadhaar verifiable credentials in Wallet in India earlier this year, so the October change is an incremental step on top of that (Jetstream).
The notes do not explain how the upgrade works, which devices it applies to or what verification it requires. Wait for Google's help pages to describe the steps before assuming it works like the existing Aadhaar credential flow.
Scam protection on older Android versions
This change matters to people who cannot update their operating system. In-call protections, which block certain risky actions while a user is on a call, previously depended on newer Android releases. Extending them to Android 15 and earlier through Play services puts them within reach of many more phones. The focus on apps requesting accessibility permissions during a call targets a common route for remote-control fraud, in which a caller talks the victim into installing an app that can operate the phone. That type of scam is widespread in India.
Google has not published a list of device models or a way to see whether the feature is active, so users cannot yet confirm it is on.
Find Hub and Play Store changes
Find Hub tags that bond automatically to their owner should reduce the chance of someone else pairing a tag that is found or taken, and Left-Behind Reminders alert users when they walk away from a tagged item. The notes do not list supported tags. The Play Store addition is smaller but visible.
What is not part of this update
An animated Pixel wallpaper and a Pixel Watch bedtime snooze that circulated alongside this release come from app teardowns, not from Google's release notes. A One UI 9 status bar bug reported at the same time is a Samsung software issue.
What to watch next
Check Settings for a Google Play system update over the next two weeks, and watch for a Google support page describing the Aadhaar upgrade steps and the devices covered by the wider scam protection.
