Motorola has started rolling out Android 17 to the Razr Ultra 2026, giving owners of its flagship flip phone a redesigned interface, a customisable AI key and a feature that slows the opening of distracting apps. The update is arriving in the United States first, and Motorola has not said when other regions will get it (Android Central, Notebookcheck).
What is rolling out
Android Central reports that a tip reached it on the afternoon of October 6 and that the update was then spotted in the wild, with more carriers and users expected to see it during the week. Notebookcheck followed on October 8. The phone, also called the Razr 70 Ultra, shipped with Android 16 when it was announced in May 2026, so this is its first major OS upgrade.
| Update detail | Razr Ultra 2026 |
|---|---|
| Build | A171WLH.38-19-5 |

The update still carries the September 2026 security patch (Neoteo). Owners should have a stable connection and enough free storage before starting.
The headline features
Motorola's changelog, as reported by Notebookcheck, cites a fresh and expressive design, smarter notifications, faster multitasking and enhanced protection. Android Central lists the changes owners will notice first: revamped and themed icons, an updated Settings page and HDR display settings with an Intensity slider. It also reports haptic feedback when a notification is dismissed.
Notification summaries condense long messages and group conversations from apps such as Discord and WhatsApp into a short summary. Live Updates gets a refreshed design that Android Central compares to Apple's Dynamic Island.
The AI key and Pause Point
The more phone-specific change is the remappable AI key. In the AI Key settings, a Double Press option can now be assigned to a function the owner picks, including the digital assistant, Motorola Qira and Pay Attention.
Pause Point is a Digital Wellbeing feature that briefly delays opening apps that commonly distract the user, giving them a moment to decide whether they really need the app. Notebookcheck notes that Pixel phones running Android 17 also get it, so it is an Android feature rather than a Motorola exclusive.
What is uncertain
Android Central says Tap to Send is reportedly included, but its writer had not seen it yet; TechRepublic describes a sharing feature as Tap to Share and says availability may vary by device and build. Motorola's earlier announcement also mentioned stackable widgets, new Connected Devices sharing features and the option to hide labels in Classic Style. Notebookcheck cautions that Motorola detailed Android 17's features before release, and it is not certain all of them are in this update.
Other Motorola phones
The Razr Ultra 2026 is one of several Motorola phones getting Android 17 in the US. Android Headlines and TechRepublic report that the rollout is expanding to other Razr and Edge models, though Motorola has not published a full schedule. Owners of other models should check Motorola's support pages for their device.
What owners should do
Owners can check for the update under Settings, System, System update. A staged rollout means some phones will see it days after others, and carrier-locked units may lag. Because the file is large, installing on Wi-Fi with a good charge is sensible, and a backup before a major version change is standard practice.
What to watch next
Watch for Motorola to confirm regions and a timetable for the Razr Ultra and its other Android 17 phones. Watch early owner reports on battery life and bugs, and whether missing features such as Tap to Send appear or are dropped.
