Honor Magic9 Launches With 200MP ARRI-Tuned Cameras and an Older Chip on the Base Model
The base Magic9 keeps the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 to hold its price at 4,999 yuan, while the 6,499-yuan Pro Max gets the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6.

Honor launched its Magic9 series in China on September 28, and the lineup makes an unusual choice: the standard Magic9 ships with last year's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 rather than the newest silicon, a trade-off that helps undercut rivals on price, while dual 200MP cameras tuned with cinema camera maker ARRI run across the range (FoneArena, GadgetMatch).

Notebookcheck reported the base Magic9's 4,999-yuan price as undercutting rivals from Oppo and Vivo that use MediaTek's Dimensity 9600M at 5,499 yuan. Some reports quote lower prices after China's national subsidy, and TechNave rounds the base pre-order price to 5,000 yuan.
The cameras
Both phones pair a 50MP ultrawide with the two 200MP cameras, and the base model's 55MP square-sensor front camera lets users switch between 1:1, 16:9 and 9:16 framing without the usual crop. Both support an optional Honor G200 teleconverter that, combined with the built-in 85mm telephoto, gives an effective 200mm focal length.
The ARRI partnership covers image processing, colour management, monitoring and cinematic workflow rather than physical ARRI camera hardware (Mobile Masr). It brings LogC3 video curves and official ARRI Look colour profiles to both phones for cinema-style grading straight from the camera app.
Why Honor made this choice
Pairing flagship cameras with a year-old chip on the base model reflects a bet that most buyers care more about photography and video than benchmark scores at this price, while the newest and most expensive silicon is reserved for the Pro Max, where buyers already expect to pay a premium.
Honor also launched a Magic9 Super Edition with an 11,000mAh battery and active cooling for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, aimed at buyers who prioritise battery endurance. The series runs MagicOS 11.
International availability
Honor has not confirmed international pricing, markets or dates for the Magic9 series, and no Indian price or launch has been announced. International variants could use different configurations.
