Google has begun rolling out its October 2026 update for Pixel phones, a small release with three documented fixes. It is also expected to be the last monthly update for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, which reach the end of Google's five-year support promise this month (Android Authority, Droid Life).
Which phones get it
The update covers Pixel phones from the Pixel 6 through the Pixel 11 series, including the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet; 9to5Google counts roughly 25 models. Google released it on October 6, and the rollout continues in phases over the following week, so it may not appear on every phone immediately.
| Devices | Build |
|---|---|
| Pixel 6 to Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet | CP3A.261005.002.A1 |
| Pixel 8 to Pixel 10a | CP3A.261005.005 |
| Pixel 11 series | CD1A.261005.003 (plus a Softbank variant in Japan) |
Owners can install the update through Settings, then System, then Software updates, or flash a factory or OTA image manually.
The three fixes
Google's change log is short:
- Pixel 8 to Pixel 10: fixes occasional audio noise or distortion in the ringtone during certain VoIP calls.
- Pixel 8 to Pixel 11: fixes a bug that occasionally stopped the virtual keyboard appearing when tapping a search field.
- Pixel 11: fixes an issue that occasionally saved photos or videos in the wrong orientation.
Droid Life describes the release as mostly minor, because September's update was a quarterly release that carried the larger changes. All three are intermittent faults, which are often the hardest to chase down.
Security content
9to5Google says the update carries the October 2026 patch level, dated 2026-10-01, and resolves 28 security issues in the Android 17 October bulletin; Dutch site Androidplanet also reports 28 security issues. Details of individual vulnerabilities are published in Google's security bulletin.
The end of the road for the Pixel 6
The more significant news is for older owners. Google's Pixel update page says phones in the Pixel 6 group get updates for five years from when they first became available on the Google Store in the US. The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro launched in October 2021, which puts the cutoff after October 2026, so Android Authority and Notebookcheck conclude this is likely their final monthly update. Droid Life says the two phones have reached end of life.
The phones had already lost their path to major upgrades: Google confirmed that the first Android 17 QPR2 beta would be their last (Tech Advisor). Google's page does not give an explicit end date for monthly patches, so "last update" is an inference from the policy and launch date. The Pixel 6a continues to receive updates until June 2027, and later models follow their own schedules.
What owners should do
Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro owners should install this update when it arrives, since it may be the last security patch. After that, the phones keep working but will no longer get monthly fixes for newly found vulnerabilities, which matters most for banking, work accounts and anything sensitive on the device. Owners who keep using the phone can limit what is installed, keep apps updated through the Play Store, and plan for a replacement.
For everyone else, the update is a low-risk install with small, targeted fixes.
What to watch next
Watch for Google to confirm the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro status, for the November update, and for the Android 17 QPR3 beta, which points to the next set of features for newer Pixels.
