Retail listings and marketing assets that surfaced on October 4 showed Google preparing a new Fitbit tracker called the Fitbit Edge, ahead of any announcement from the company.
<blockquote><strong>Update, October 25:</strong> Google has since launched the Fitbit Edge at $179.99 in the US, with a 1.34-inch AMOLED always-on display, built-in GPS and an altimeter, an ECG app, IP68 rating and a replaceable 65mAh battery rated for up to seven days, or about two days with the always-on display. It is Google's first repairable fitness tracker, comes with three months of Google Health Premium, and reaches shelves on October 27; a Stephen Curry Special Edition costs $219.99 (<a href="https://www.91mobiles.com/hub/google-fitbit-edge-launched-repairable-fitness-tracker-price-features/">91mobiles</a>, <a href="https://gulfnews.com/technology/consumer-electronics/fitbit-edge-launched-replaceable-battery-with-7-day-life-ecg-for-180-1.500708283">Gulf News</a>). The leaked feature list below largely matched the final product.</blockquote>
What the listings showed
9to5Google, citing Android Headlines' report on the retail assets, said the Edge had a bulbous display that extends closer to the edge of the case than previous Fitbit trackers, shown with a Pixel Watch face adapted for the shape that displays the time, date, heart rate, step count and a workout prompt.
The listings named three colours: 9to5Google called them Canyon, Obsidian and Olive, and Droid-Life described them as orange, black and green.
Leaked features versus the launch
| Feature | In the leak | At launch |
|---|---|---|
| Display | Screen close to the case edges | 1.34-inch AMOLED, always-on |
| GPS | Reported by Droid-Life only | Built in, with altimeter |
| ECG | Metal side strips suggested ECG | ECG app |
| Battery | Up to 7 days | Up to 7 days (about 2 with always-on), replaceable |
| Price | Unknown; Droid-Life guessed $150 to $200 | $179.99 |
Both outlets listed Bluetooth without Wi-Fi, notifications and apps including Google Maps, media and music controls and Find My Phone. Droid-Life added automatic activity recognition and a Fitbit Air-style health sensor, and said the tracker works with Android and iOS through the Google Health app rather than running Wear OS.
Where it fits
Google already sells the screenless Fitbit Air, which launched in India at ₹13,999. The Edge sits between that and the Pixel Watch line, adding a screen and apps without a full smartwatch operating system. Droid-Life cited a $99 price for the Air and $399 for the Pixel Watch 5. The leak followed an August marketing leak and a September FCC filing.
No Indian price or launch has been announced for the Edge.
What to watch next
Watch for independent reviews of the battery life and GPS accuracy after the October 27 release, and for any announcement of availability beyond the US, including India.
