Garmin Enduro 4 Launches at $899.99 With 64GB of Storage, Plus the $799.99 Approach S72

Garmin quotes up to 320 hours in activity mode and 90 days as a smartwatch, both under bright-sun conditions. The gains over the Enduro 3 are in memory, storage and training features.

Garmin Enduro 4 Launches at $899.99 With 64GB of Storage, Plus the $799.99 Approach S72

Garmin has launched the Enduro 4, a 51mm solar-assisted ultra-endurance watch priced at $899.99 in the US, with the same headline battery claims as its predecessor and double the storage. The launch also brings a new golf watch, the Approach S72, from $799.99 (Android Authority, Android Headlines).

Price and availability

Garmin announced the Enduro 4 on October 6 with a suggested retail price of $899.99, the same as the Enduro 3's launch price, and both watches went on sale in the US on October 9. In Malaysia the Enduro 4 is listed at RM 3,899, with sales from October 30 (TechNave). The Approach S72 costs $799.99, €799 or £699. No Indian price or launch has been announced.

Battery claims, with the fine print

Battery life is the reason the Enduro line exists. Garmin claims up to 320 hours in activity mode with solar charging and up to 90 days in smartwatch mode. Both figures come with conditions. The activity figure assumes continuous use in 50,000 lux with the extended battery activity mode selected. The smartwatch figure assumes all-day wear with three hours a day outdoors in 50,000 lux. The numbers match those quoted for the Enduro 3, so this is a refresh of capability rather than endurance.

Fifty thousand lux is bright, direct sunlight, so a runner in a cloudy city or a hiker under tree cover should expect less. Garmin's press release does not give a figure without solar assistance.

Hardware changes

The watch has a 1.4-inch MIP display, a Power Sapphire solar lens, a titanium bezel and a fibre-reinforced polymer case. It is rated to 10 ATM, includes an LED flashlight with white and red options, and weighs 66g, which Android Authority says is 3g heavier than the Enduro 3.

Memory is the main upgrade. Garmin says the watch has 64GB of storage for maps, music and data, double the predecessor's, plus 50 percent more RAM and a mapping engine that pans 30 percent faster. A ComfortFit Fabric Band with QuickFit swapping is new.

New training features

Two power modes let wearers choose between accuracy and battery: Max Accuracy runs full-feature tracking for shorter efforts, and Max Battery stretches long recordings. Garmin adds grade-adjusted, pace-based workout targets and a grade-adjusted rolling pace, which matter on hilly or mountain routes where flat pace misleads.

Stamina zones and a stamina curve show how endurance changes with fitness and training history. Garmin Epic groups multiple activities over days, weeks or months into one shareable summary in Garmin Connect. The watch has built-in routable maps with a perspective view, enhanced indoor rowing metrics including VO2 max and a power curve, and expanded rucking options with adjustable pack weight and calorie targets. Garmin lists more than 100 activity profiles. The accuracy of the new stamina and grade-adjusted features has not yet been tested independently.

The Approach S72 golf watch

The Approach S72 replaces the S70 and comes in 43mm and 47mm sizes with AMOLED displays, sapphire lenses, titanium bezels and fabric bands. It quadruples the S70's storage to 64GB and adds ECG support and an LED flashlight (FoneArena). On-wrist swing metrics cover hand speed, backswing length and wrist rotation, and Android Authority describes it as Garmin's first golf watch with a speaker and microphone for calls and voice commands. Some golf features, such as green reading on select courses and post-round putting analytics, require a Golf Membership.

Who it is for

The Enduro 4 is built for ultrarunners, mountaineers and anyone who goes days without a charger. At $899.99 it asks a premium for battery life and durability most people will not use, and a standard fitness watch covers typical needs for far less. The gains over the Enduro 3 are in storage, memory speed and software rather than the headline battery figures, so Enduro 3 owners have a weaker case to upgrade.

What to watch next

Watch for independent battery tests in real weather rather than 50,000 lux, first accounts of the faster map panning in use, and pricing in more markets.
