Apple Reportedly Plans an OLED iPad mini Alongside Touchscreen MacBook Pro Models Late This Month

Update: Apple has since confirmed a "Pro and Tell" event in Los Angeles on October 28, which fits Bloomberg's "on or around October 27" timing. Apple has not confirmed which products it will show.

Apple will reportedly launch an OLED iPad mini on or around Tuesday, October 27, alongside touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro models, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. It would be a second wave of October releases after Apple's smart home event on October 13. Apple declined to comment (MacRumors, iClarified).

What the report says about the iPad mini

The report gives three changes: an OLED display, a camera moved to the landscape edge for video calls, and a revamped speaker system. It does not name a chip, screen size or price. The current iPad mini uses the A17 Pro chip, so the OLED panel would be the headline change.

The rest of the launch

Expected product (reported)Details
OLED iPad miniOLED display, landscape camera, revamped speakers
Touchscreen MacBook Pro, 14-inch and 16-inchOLED, touch, Dynamic Island, thinner and lighter; M5 Pro and M5 Max expected (unconfirmed)
14-inch MacBook ProM6 chip, current design
iMacM6 chip, current design

Bloomberg places the touchscreen laptops in the MacBook Pro family rather than a separate "MacBook Ultra" line, and the OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro had been reported in testing with macOS 27.1. The launch is aimed at creative professionals in video, photo and music, with an online video presentation and hands-on time for the press. Sale dates for the laptops could fall in November (TweakTown).

Why an OLED iPad mini would matter

Apple's larger iPad Pro models already use OLED, and the iPad mini is the smallest tablet still waiting for it. On a screen people hold close for reading, video and games, the difference would be easy to see. OLED panels cost more to make than LCDs, so a price rise is possible, though no source has suggested a figure. Moving the camera to the landscape edge would change how the tablet is used on a desk for video calls and note-taking.

Reading the report with care

This is a single-source report relayed by several outlets, and the October 27 date was approximate. Apple's confirmed October 28 event lines up with it, but the product list still rests on Gurman's reporting. No Indian price or availability has been reported.
