Apple's Touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro Will Be "Significantly Lighter," Bloomberg Reports

Mark Gurman says internal redesign has cut the weight of Apple's first touchscreen MacBook Pro. None of it is confirmed by Apple, and no price has been reported.

Apple's first touchscreen MacBook Pro with an OLED display will be "significantly lighter" than current models, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, and could arrive within weeks. Apple has not announced the machine, so the details below are reported, not official.

<blockquote><strong>Update, October 25:</strong> Apple has announced a "Pro and Tell" Apple Experience in Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 28, at 10am Pacific, without naming products (<a href="https://www.thestar.com.my/tech/tech-news/2026/10/20/apple-to-host-039pro-and-tell039-event-on-october-28-in-la">The Star/Reuters</a>, <a href="https://macworld.com/article/3264015/apple-teases-pro-and-tell-event-on-october-28.html">Macworld</a>). Gurman has said the OLED MacBook Pro could go on sale as soon as November 6, and Bloomberg reports the event may also bring a new iPad mini and M6 versions of the 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac. Apple has confirmed only the date, place and name.</blockquote>

What Bloomberg reports

Gurman says the redesign achieves its weight saving through internal changes, including smaller components and a rearranged layout. Engadget notes that current MacBook Pro models weigh between 3.4 and 4.7 pounds depending on screen size. No target weight has been given.

The display is the headline change: an OLED panel with touch input, a first for the MacBook Pro line. MacRumors, citing Gurman's Power On podcast on October 1, adds that 14-inch and 16-inch versions are expected, with a thinner body and a Dynamic Island in place of the notch.

Chips and positioning

The new machines are expected to use existing M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. Engadget and MacRumors describe the standard MacBook Pro line moving to newer chips next year, with the touchscreen models positioned above it as a premium option. MacRumors says Apple has not decided whether the name stays MacBook Pro or changes to something such as MacBook Ultra, and mentions a possible custom modem for cellular connectivity; both points are speculation.

Timing

Gurman initially said Apple could introduce the touchscreen models as early as October, while Engadget's summary pointed to November. The October 28 event and Gurman's November 6 sale date now narrow that window, though at least one outlet notes that the laptop's date is not settled and it may not be part of the October 28 announcements (Gulf News).

Why it matters

Touch has been the notable gap between the Mac and the iPad for years. An OLED panel would also bring deeper blacks and, depending on the panel, higher peak brightness than the mini-LED screens on current MacBook Pro models, and a lighter chassis would matter to people who carry a 16-inch machine daily.

Someone considering a MacBook Pro now may want to wait for the October 28 announcements, since a redesign normally comes with different configurations and pricing. No Indian price or date has been reported.
