Deep Silver has announced free next-generation updates for Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux, scheduled for PC on October 22 and for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S on October 29. The upgrade is free for existing owners and targets 4K output, richer textures and higher frame rates (Gematsu, The FPS Review).

Dates and platforms

PlatformUpdate dateReported targets
PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Windows Store)October 22, 20264K with uncapped frame rates, DLSS, spatial audio
PlayStation 5 and PS5 ProOctober 29, 20264K, up to 120 frames per second (Insider Gaming)
Xbox Series X and SOctober 29, 2026Native 4K at 60, upscaled 4K at 120 (Pure Xbox)

The update covers both games in the Redux collection and is free for existing owners on all listed platforms, including digital copies. Physical copies are expected to be covered but this is not officially confirmed, and the announcement does not say whether owning only one of the two games is enough (Digital Citizen).

What changes

Deep Silver describes it as an update rather than a full remaster or remake, keeping the original Redux look. Insider Gaming says it improves textures, lighting, shadows, animations, audio and environmental detail. All platforms get 4K textures; PC also gains DLSS support, spatial audio and community bug fixes and quality-of-life changes (PC Guide).

Insider Gaming lists console output of 4K at up to 120 frames per second, while Pure Xbox specifies native 4K at 60 and upscaled 4K at 120 on compatible displays. Treat native 4K at 60 as the firmer console target until Deep Silver publishes full technical details. On Xbox Series X, Pure Xbox lists TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing. Controller support includes DualSense adaptive triggers and Xbox impulse triggers, and the update adds runtime hardware tessellation and displacement, a Power Optimized Mode on Xbox and a Power Saver Mode on PlayStation.

What the numbers mean

The 120 frames per second figure requires a display that accepts a 120Hz signal; on a standard 60Hz television, players get the native 4K at 60 mode. On PC, uncapped frame rates mean performance depends on the player's hardware.

Why now

Pure Xbox says Metro 2039, the next entry in the series, launches on February 4, 2027, and the franchise has passed 50 million sales since 2010, according to Deep Silver's announcement as reported by several outlets (Games.gg). A free refresh of older games is a common way to bring players back before a sequel. The reports do not say whether the Redux games' prices will change.

What is still unknown

Deep Silver had not published download sizes, PC system requirements, PC frame-rate targets, whether owners must opt in, or how saves carry over. It said full patch notes would arrive at launch.

What to watch next

Check the Steam or Epic changelog for the PC patch notes, and watch for console performance comparisons after October 29 and Metro 2039 news ahead of its February release.
