India's EV Price Ladder in September 2026: From Under ₹4 Lakh to Over ₹80 Lakh

Buying an electric car in India now means choosing from dozens of models, with listing sites counting about 65 on sale and prices running from under ₹4 lakh to more than ₹80 lakh. Here is how the market looked in late September 2026, by starting ex-showroom price and claimed range. Prices differ between listing sites, by city and variant, and some depend on whether the battery is bought outright or rented (EVFY, MeraEV).

Under ₹10 lakh

ModelStarting price (ex-showroom)Claimed rangeNote
Vayve Mobility Eva₹3.99 lakh (₹3.25 lakh with battery rental)-Solar-assisted city car; deliveries expected later in 2026
Tata Tiago EVFrom about ₹6.99 lakh (listings vary up to ₹8.69 lakh)226 to 285 km-
MG Comet EVFrom about ₹7 to ₹7.80 lakh (listings vary)230 kmShort urban trips
Tata Punch EVFrom about ₹9.79 lakh (listings vary)260 to 350 km30 to 40 kWh packs

The Vayve Eva's ₹3.25 lakh price requires a battery rental plan with a minimum monthly distance and a per-kilometre battery charge, while ₹3.99 lakh buys it outright (CarDekho). Tata's Punch EV is among the strongest value picks in this band.

₹10 to ₹20 lakh

ModelStarting priceClaimed range
Tata Nexon EV₹12.49 lakh275 to 489 km
Kia Syros EV₹13.50 to ₹20 lakh443 to 526 km
MG Windsor EV₹14.70 lakh (one listing from ₹9.99 lakh)332 to 449 km
Maruti Suzuki e Vitara₹16.19 lakh (one listing from ₹10.99 lakh)440 to 543 km
Tata Sierra EV₹18.79 lakh566 to 665 km
Mahindra BE 6₹19.45 lakh548 to 683 km

This is the volume band, where most of India's electric car sales happen. Lower listed prices on some sites can reflect different variants or battery-rental schemes, so confirm what a quoted price includes.

₹20 lakh and above

The Tata Harrier EV starts at ₹21.79 lakh with a claimed 538 to 627 km, and the Mahindra XEV 9e at ₹21.90 lakh with 542 to 656 km. In the premium bracket, the BYD Seal starts at around ₹43.83 lakh on road, and the MG Cyberster sports car is listed at ₹82.50 to ₹87.49 lakh. The longest claimed range on sale is the Mercedes-Benz EQS at 857 km.

How to read these numbers

Prices are starting ex-showroom figures from listing sites; check the manufacturer or a dealer for a current on-road quote. Where a battery rental plan is offered, the lower price excludes the battery, which is paid for monthly or per kilometre. Range figures are claimed certified numbers, and real-world range is usually lower, especially on highways and with air conditioning on. Battery size, charging speed and battery warranty matter as much as headline price.

What to weigh before you buy

Home charging access is the biggest factor: with a wall charger, running costs are very low; if you rely on public fast chargers, check what is available on your regular routes. Also check the service network in your city, resale value and whether the battery has a separate warranty.

What to watch next

Watch how festive-season discounts change effective prices, whether the Vayve Eva starts delivering at scale, and new launches such as the VinFast VF 3, which has no confirmed date or price.
