Mahindra Crosses 1 Lakh Electric Origin SUV Billings as September Sales Rise 15 Percent

Mahindra says it has crossed 1 lakh billings of its Electric Origin SUVs since launch, a milestone announced alongside its September 2026 sales. The company's total sales rose 15 percent to 1,14,874 vehicles, with domestic SUVs up 14 percent, though domestic tractors and exports both declined (Mahindra, Cars24).

What the milestone means

Electric Origin is Mahindra's label for its electric SUV range, which includes the BE 6 and XEV 9e; bookings for those two opened on February 14, 2025. The company says it has now billed 1 lakh of these SUVs since launch.

Billings refer to vehicles Mahindra has invoiced, which is not the same as vehicles registered or on the road. Mahindra has not said how the 1 lakh splits between models. Dr Velusamy R, President of Mahindra's Automotive Business, said the milestone "adds to Mahindra's expanding presence in electric passenger vehicles."

September sales in detail

SegmentSeptember 2026Change year on year
Total sales (including exports)1,14,874+15% (from 1,00,298)
Domestic SUVs64,092+14% (from 56,233); +8% on August
Domestic light commercial vehicles30,420+14%

Mahindra Trucks and Buses plus SML Mahindra2,912+53%
Exports4,019-7% (from 4,320)
Domestic tractors50,208-23%

Year to date, domestic SUV sales reached 3,58,142, up 20 percent. Autocar Pro adds that cargo vehicles within the trucks and buses group rose 84 percent. One later report gave a different total of 1,13,705 units, but the company's release says 1,14,874.

Where it fell short

Mahindra attributes the 23 percent fall in tractor sales to the festive season shifting into October and a high base from the previous year, when GST rate adjustments lifted sales; Autocar Pro notes year-to-date tractor figures remain up 6 percent. Exports were the only weak spot in the vehicle business.

How Hyundai compares

Hyundai Motor India reported total September sales of 77,916 units, up 10.8 percent, which Carlelo describes as its highest ever monthly total, with 57,166 domestic and 20,750 exports. Carlelo says sub-4-metre and mid-sized SUVs led industry sales, with hybrids and EVs growing steadily.

Where Mahindra stands in electric cars

Vahan registration data for September put Mahindra second in electric car registrations with 7,741 units and a 21.5 percent share, behind Tata Motors' 14,722, according to Autocar Professional. Registrations and billings measure different things, so the two figures cannot be compared directly, but both show Mahindra firmly in second place.

What to watch next

October's numbers will show whether the festive season pulls tractor sales back and whether SUV volumes keep growing. Mahindra has not released a model breakdown of the 1 lakh billings, which would show how much comes from the BE 6 and how much from the XEV 9e.
