Thief: The Dark Project Remastered Gets a December 3 Release Date and $29.99 Price

Atari has set December 3, 2026 as the release date for Thief: The Dark Project Remastered, with pre-orders open. The stealth classic is being remastered by Nightdive Studios, with Eidos-Montréal credited as a developer alongside it, according to Gematsu's report of the announcement on November 2.

Release date, platforms and prices

The remaster launches on December 3 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X and S, Switch, Switch 2 and PC, with the PC version available on Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG, according to Gematsu and WorthPlaying. Atari is the publisher.

The standard edition costs $29.99, £24.99, €29.99 or ¥3,850, and the Digital Deluxe edition costs $34.99, £28.99, €34.99 or ¥4,840, per Gematsu. Push Square gives the same US prices. WorthPlaying's report, which draws on a press release from Nightdive, Eidos-Montréal and Atari, also confirms the date and prices. We found no India pricing.

Edition US price Format
Standard $29.99 Digital, and physical on PS5 and Switch 2
Digital Deluxe $34.99 Digital
Steelbook $39.99 Physical, with printed manual
Deluxe Trapezoid $69.99 Physical big-box replica

The physical prices come from WorthPlaying, and Push Square confirms the $69.99 Deluxe Trapezoid at £49.99 in the UK. Gematsu says physical copies are distributed by Clear River Games, and none of the sources we read gives a separate physical release date.

What is in the box

The remaster includes Thief Gold, which adds three extra missions and five new enemy types, according to Gematsu and Push Square. It also adds a weapon and item wheel, a mission selector, a Vault of behind-the-scenes material, trophies and support for custom campaigns on PC. Push Square and WorthPlaying both report a new campaign called The Tarnished Mirror, which Push Square says bridges the story between The Dark Project and Thief 2.

Push Square adds that the new campaign was made by the creators of the fan-made Thief: The Black Parade. That detail appears only in Push Square, so we treat it as reported rather than confirmed. Gematsu says the Digital Deluxe edition adds a soundtrack, remaster diary artwork and a preview of the Thief novel, while WorthPlaying describes an art book, soundtrack and novel excerpt, so the extras are likely the same bundle described in different words.

Switch buyers

WorthPlaying reports that the Switch 2 physical edition also plays on the original Switch, and that owners of the Switch version get a free upgrade to the Switch 2 edition. That is a single-source detail, and Atari has not confirmed it in the pages we could read.

Where the official pages stand

The Atari product page and the Steam listing, as we read them on November 3, still showed no date or price, and Nightdive's page also lacked them. They appear to lag behind the announcement, since three outlets agree on the date and prices. A GamingBolt article that gave December 4 appears to be wrong.

Why it matters

Thief: The Dark Project is among the earliest stealth games built around light, shadow and sound, and Nightdive has built a reputation for restoring older shooters and immersive sims with modern controls. A priced and dated release suggests Atari is confident in the project, and the lower price tag makes it an easy purchase for new players. The campaign and Thief Gold content give returning players a reason to revisit it.

What to watch next

The first thing to watch is the official store pages, which should update with the date, price and platform list. Next is a gameplay trailer or hands-on preview showing how the new textures, models and cutscenes look, and whether the performance claims hold up on Switch and Switch 2. Reviews at launch will show whether the new campaign lives up to the original.
