FromSoftware has delayed The Duskbloods, its multiplayer game for the Nintendo Switch 2, from 2026 to 2027. The studio announced the change on October 29, 2026, through the game's official account on X, as reported by Engadget and Beebom. No exact release date, or even a quarter, has been given.
The Duskbloods is a Switch 2 exclusive, described as a player-versus-player-versus-environment game. It had been planned for release this year, though the studio had never given a precise day. Nintendo's own product page for the game now lists the release date as simply "2027", and no longer mentions 2026.
What FromSoftware said
The studio's explanation was brief. Engadget and Beebom both quote the statement as saying FromSoftware decided "to move the launch, allowing time for final adjustments to game rules and balancing." The message also referred to a network test held in August, saying players showed "active interest in the core concepts of the game." In other words, the studio is presenting the delay as a polish decision after testing, not as a sign of trouble with the idea itself.
That framing is the studio's own, and nothing in the sources contradicts it, but it also cannot be independently confirmed. We could not find a separate statement from Nintendo beyond the changed date on its store page. Beebom reports that the delay is unconnected to the release of other big games this year, but that claim is the outlet's own and is not attributed to FromSoftware.
Why the delay matters
The Duskbloods has been one of the headline third-party titles in the Switch 2's lineup, and a delay removes one of the console's more anticipated games from the holiday window. FromSoftware is best known for punishing action games, and a multiplayer title is a different kind of problem. Balance in player-versus-player play is much harder to fix after launch than in a single-player game, because players learn and exploit weaknesses quickly. Spending extra months on rules and balance after a public test is a conventional response to that risk.
There is a competitive angle too. Nintendo has used exclusives to define its new hardware, and every gap in the schedule is a gap that rivals and other Switch 2 publishers can fill. A move into 2027 pushes the game out of the crowded fourth quarter and into a year that is already filling up with releases, so the eventual date will matter.
What we do not know
Several details remain unconfirmed. There is no new window narrower than "2027". Reports differ on how the August network test was run; Engadget describes it as an August test, while Beebom says it took place earlier in the year without a date. We do not know if the delay will change the game's content, price or the platform plan, and FromSoftware has not said whether further tests will be held before launch.
Readers in India should note that Nintendo has not announced anything about the game's regional pricing or availability, so the delay changes nothing for them yet beyond the schedule itself.
What to watch next
The next signals will come from Nintendo, likely at a future Direct broadcast, and from FromSoftware's account, which could announce another network test or a release quarter. Until then, 2027 is the only commitment, and players waiting for the game should treat any more specific date as a rumour.
