Fortnitemares 2026 began on October 1 with the v42.30 update, and its biggest draw is a long-awaited crossover with Five Nights at Freddy's. The Halloween event runs until November 1, earlier than usual: the 2025 edition began on October 9 and the 2024 one on October 12 (Esports.gg, FRVR).
When the servers came back
Fortnite servers went down for the update on October 1. FRVR reported that Epic expected downtime from 4 AM Eastern, with play returning between 6 and 7 AM Eastern, roughly 3:30 to 4:30 PM IST, and Insider Gaming expected about 6 AM Eastern based on previous updates.
What Five Nights at Freddy's adds
Four animatronic characters arrive as outfits: Freddy Fazbear, Chica the Chicken, Bonnie the Bunny and Foxy the Pirate Fox, each with a Withered alternate style according to Esports.gg, plus extras such as Freddy Fazbear Kicks and back bling. Freddy Fazbear costs 1,500 V-Bucks, and the collaboration includes the song "Join Us for a Bite" by JT Music.
The crossover is more than cosmetic. A restaurant location that was under construction becomes a Freddy Fazbear's Pizza point of interest with "security cameras, creepy animatronics, and jump scares," Esports.gg says, where players can fight the animatronics or take control of one to chase opponents. Reports differ on whether the pizzeria replaces the Battlewoods area or whether the Battlewoods is reskinned separately as Gravegate.
The other collaborations
| Collaboration | Status |
|---|---|
| Five Nights at Freddy's | Live from October 1 |
| A Nightmare on Elm Street (Freddy Krueger) | Confirmed; boss on Elm St. in the Nightmare Neighborhood POI |

Black Clover, which earlier reports disputed, appears in Epic's key art (ExitLag), though leaked Asta and Yuno skins are unconfirmed. Epic has not given release dates for each collaboration, and VICE expects most skins to arrive in stages through October.
Original skins and gameplay changes
VICE reports four doll-themed outfits, including one inspired by a spooky Alice in Wonderland with a white rabbit accessory. FRVR names Osric the Uninvited in the October Fortnite Crew Pack, Bunnybone in the Item Shop and a Gold Punk outfit through gift card redemption between October 2 and 31, and reports a free Jack-A-Nape skin and two new Halloween Sprites.
On gameplay, FRVR reports that Horde Rush returns, a Halloween map arrives for Fortnite Reload, and classic Halloween weapons such as the chainsaw, witch broom and wood stake shotgun return as Loot Hacks. One guide also lists five bosses, a Bonerattler SMG and six new Match Overrides (Gamertag Mythras).
Where this sits in the season
Insider Gaming says this is the penultimate update of Chapter 7 Season 4, with a second Fortnitemares update about two weeks later before the chapter's final season begins in early November.
