Ford Fathom Electric Pickup Opens Preorder Invites at $28,350, but Range Is Still Secret
Ford's first Universal EV Platform truck has a price but no range, battery capacity or towing figure. Preorders proper open in early 2027, and a camouflaged prototype was spotted at Ford's Dearborn headquarters this week.

Ford has begun collecting names for its cheapest electric pickup yet, but it still has not said how far the truck will go on a charge. The Fathom, a four-door electric pickup, starts at $28,350 before a $1,595 destination fee, and Ford is taking preorder invite sign-ups now ahead of paid preorders in early 2027 (CBT News).

The Fathom is Ford's least expensive EV and costs about half as much as an F-150 Lightning (Electrek). Standard equipment includes next-generation BlueCruise hands-free driving, bidirectional power, a large touchscreen with Apple Maps, Digital Key, app control, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Ford says it seats five adults with more passenger volume than a Toyota RAV4, and claims lower five-year ownership costs than a three-year-old used Tesla Model Y and a 0-60 mph time targeted to match a Mustang EcoBoost. Those are targets, not test results.
Ford calls it midsize, but prototypes suggest it is closer in size to the compact Maverick.
What Ford has not said
Ford's page says projected EPA range figures are not yet available, and battery capacity, towing ratings and charging speed are also unannounced. A prototype seen at a Tesla Supercharger suggests a NACS charging port, but Ford has not confirmed it. Range will decide how well the price holds up for a truck sold on value.
How the invite list works
Ford's page asks only for a name, email and ZIP code, with no deposit, so the invite is a place in line for a later preorder, not an order. Ford chief executive Jim Farley acknowledged the challenge: "It's going to be a heck of an effort to launch this at scale, at cost, on time."
A prototype in Dearborn
On October 15, Ford's Emily Gabler posted a photograph of a disguised Fathom outside Ford's world headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan, and told followers to watch for a full reveal early next year (Electrek).
What the price does and does not tell us
$28,350 is the entry point with the standard-range battery. Ford has not priced a larger battery option or said how many of each version it will build, so the starting price describes the cheapest Fathom rather than the one most buyers will end up with. Ford has not announced the Fathom for markets outside North America.
What to watch next
The full reveal in early 2027, with range, battery capacity, charging and towing figures; the opening of paid preorders; and whether the $28,350 price survives to deliveries.
