Mercedes-Benz Launches the Pune-Built Electric GLC at Rs 78.50 Lakh, With Deliveries From Mid-November

Mercedes-Benz India launched the Electric GLC on November 4 at Rs 78.50 lakh ex-showroom, and it is built locally at the company's Chakan plant near Pune. The only version on sale is the GLC 400 4MATIC, with a claimed WLTP range of up to 711 km, and deliveries are due to begin in mid-November.

A local build for an electric Mercedes

The Electric GLC is the first locally assembled Mercedes-Benz in India on the company's MB.EA-M electric architecture, according to Business Today's report on the launch. Pune becomes the second plant in the world to build this generation of the car, after Bremen in Germany. Gaadiwaadi notes that the Indian cars come off the same flexible line as the petrol and diesel models, so the company does not need a separate electric line.

Mercedes-Benz India says it is adding Rs 200 crore of investment in 2026, which takes its cumulative investment in the country to Rs 3,200 crore. The first locally built unit rolled off the line on November 4, the same day as the launch.

Battery, motors and charging

The GLC 400 4MATIC pairs a 94 kWh usable battery with two motors and all-wheel drive. Mercedes lists 360 kW, or 489 hp, and 800 Nm of torque, with 0 to 100 km/h in a claimed 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 210 km/h. Business Today reports the 711 km range as ARAI certified, while the Mercedes India model page lists it as a WLTP figure. Real-world range will depend on speed, load and road conditions.

The car uses an 800-volt architecture. Mercedes claims DC fast charging at up to 330 kW, which it says takes the battery from 10 to 80 percent in 22 minutes under ideal conditions. The company also claims up to 303 km of range added in 10 minutes. On AC, the onboard charger accepts up to 22 kW, and Mercedes quotes about 10.5 hours for a full charge from a wallbox or public AC point. Those are best-case numbers from the maker, not independent tests.

One change will matter to buyers. New electric Mercedes owners no longer get a complimentary AC wall box. Business Today reports that buyers can instead take MB.CHARGE public charging credits worth 2,500 kWh, valid for 24 months and subject to terms.

Size, space and equipment

The Electric GLC measures 4,856 mm long on a 2,972 mm wheelbase, per the Mercedes India page, and offers a 570 litre boot plus a 128 litre front trunk. The car runs the MB.OS software platform and carries a 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, an illuminated grille with 942 pixels and a panoramic roof with illuminated stars. Gaadiwaadi also lists air suspension and rear-axle steering, while CarWale adds a Burmester audio system with Dolby Atmos, ventilated and massaging front seats, wireless charging pads, Level 2 driver assistance and auto-park. Mercedes India's own page does not state which of these features are standard, so buyers should confirm the equipment list with a dealer.

India pricing and availability

The Electric GLC 400 4MATIC costs Rs 78.50 lakh ex-showroom across India, a figure that Business Today, CarWale and Gaadiwaadi all report. CarWale lists on-road prices of about Rs 82.84 lakh in Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and Kolkata, about Rs 90.73 lakh in Delhi and about Rs 90.70 lakh in Bengaluru. Bookings opened in October, and deliveries begin in mid-November. Mercedes-Benz India has not published a warranty statement in the coverage we reviewed.

Demand figures differ between outlets. Business Today cites more than 550 expressions of interest in the first 36 hours of bookings, while Gaadiwaadi reports more than 1,000 reservations. We could not reconcile these, so treat them as unconfirmed until Mercedes-Benz India publishes a single count.

The rivalry that is coming

The obvious competitor is the BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase. Autocar India says it is slated for an Indian launch in 2027, and CarWale expects BMW to assemble it locally as well. CarWale also reports that BMW has taken more than 1,000 bookings and that the car is sold out until March 2027, though that is a report and not a BMW statement. For now Mercedes has no direct electric rival on sale in this segment from BMW.

What to watch next

Watch the first customer deliveries in mid-November and whether Mercedes-Benz India announces a booking count of its own. Also watch for BMW's iX3 pricing and its timeline for local assembly, and for any independent range tests of the Indian-spec car.
